Choosing your own home care provider

Switching your home care to Alberta Maple Care

If your family receives Type 2 home care today, from an agency you didn’t choose, Client-Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI, also called Type 3) lets you choose your own registered provider. Here is how our care works, what switching involves, and the offer we make to families who switch.

Our offer for families switching from Type 2

Families who switch to Alberta Maple Care from Type 2 home care pay no co-payment on their approved CDHCI hours, for as long as they stay our clients.

The terms:

  • The offer is for new clients switching from Type 2 home care. Families already receiving CDHCI care from us keep their current terms.
  • It covers the hours your Assisted Living Alberta case manager approves under CDHCI. Alberta Blue Cross pays $34.03 of each approved hour, billed directly by us, and there is no co-payment for you on those hours.
  • It lasts for as long as you stay an Alberta Maple Care client.
  • Whether CDHCI is approved, and for how many hours, is your case manager’s decision, not ours.

Rates apply within Calgary city limits. For homes outside the city boundary, rates may vary and are confirmed case by case before care begins. CDHCI program rates can change over time.

How our care works

  • One main caregiver, and one backup. Every client has a main caregiver and a backup caregiver.
  • If your caregiver is sick, the backup you already know covers the visit, and we call you before it.
  • A schedule set together with you. Changes need 48 hours’ notice, and there is no charge for a change in an emergency.
  • Three-hour visits as standard, and shorter by arrangement.
  • Nurse-reviewed care plans. A Registered Nurse reviews and signs off every care plan before care begins.
  • A caregiver matched to you. We match caregivers to each client, and caregivers who speak other languages can be matched too.
  • A reply within 24 hours. We reply to every enquiry within 24 hours, and the first in-home assessment visit is free, with no obligation.

How switching works

  1. Talk to your case manager. Switching starts with a conversation with your Assisted Living Alberta case manager about CDHCI. We help you prepare for it: what to ask, and what to have on hand.
  2. The case manager decides. Whether CDHCI fits your situation, and how many hours are approved, is the case manager’s decision. We never promise approval and we never estimate hours.
  3. Choose your provider. If CDHCI is approved, you choose Alberta Maple Care as your registered provider and sign the Letter of Agreement.
  4. Plan the care together. We visit, build the care plan and the schedule with you, a Registered Nurse signs the plan off, and we agree a start date with you.

CDHCI covers personal care, homemaking and respite. Nursing and other professional health visits are not part of CDHCI; if you receive them today, they continue through your home care program alongside our visits.

The worries families raise

“I don’t want a stranger in the house.”

You see the same small team: one main caregiver and one backup. If your caregiver is sick, the backup who covers is someone you already know, and we call you before the visit.

“Personal care feels private.”

Your caregiver is matched to you, including by language where that matters to you. The care plan is built with you and signed off by a Registered Nurse before care begins.

“Our days don’t fit a rigid schedule.”

The schedule is set together with you. Visits are three hours as standard, and shorter by arrangement. Changes need 48 hours’ notice, with no charge for a change in an emergency.

Start with a free visit
