Stroke recovery care at home

Recovery doesn’t end at discharge — for most families, that’s when the hard part starts. Our nursing-led team helps Calgary-area stroke survivors continue recovering at home: rehabilitation routines kept up between therapy appointments, safety while abilities rebuild, and a clinical eye that knows what setbacks look like early.

The first weeks home decide a lot

The gap between hospital therapy and the next outpatient appointment is where progress stalls and readmissions happen. We bridge it: practicing the exercises your rehab team prescribed, supporting safe transfers and walking, and keeping a nurse’s eyes on blood pressure, swallowing, and new symptoms.

One-sided weakness changes every task

Dressing, bathing, cooking, getting to the bathroom at night — hemiparesis turns each one into a two-person job. Our caregivers assist without taking over, so every day is also practice, and independence comes back task by task.

Communication and patience

Aphasia and cognitive changes are frustrating for everyone. Our caregivers are trained to slow down, use simple supported communication, and treat every conversation as part of recovery — not an obstacle to getting the task done.

The services families combine most

Not sure which mix fits? That’s exactly what the free in-home visit is for — a nurse assesses, explains options including CDHCI funding, and builds the plan with you.

This page is general information about home-care support, not medical advice. Care plans are built with your family and, where you choose, alongside your physician, Assisted Living Alberta case manager, and therapy team.
