Multiple sclerosis (MS) care at home

MS rarely follows a schedule — good weeks and hard weeks arrive without warning, and Canada has one of the highest rates of MS in the world. Our nursing-led team supports Calgary-area families living with MS at any age: energy-wise routines, heat-aware care, safe mobility, and a registered nurse who scales the plan up in a relapse and back down in remission. We work alongside your neurologist and MS clinic, never instead of them.

Energy is the budget

MS fatigue is invisible and real — the day’s energy is a fixed budget, and a shower can cost as much as an outing. We schedule visits around your best hours, take over the energy-expensive tasks (laundry, meals, errands), and pace the rest, so the good hours go to work, family, and the things that make a life — not to chores.

Heat-aware care

For many people with MS, symptoms flare when body temperature rises — a hot shower, a warm room, a July afternoon. Our caregivers plan around it: cooler shower temperatures, fans and shade, cold drinks within reach, outdoor time in the cool of the day, and a watchful eye that reports heat-related changes to you and, where you choose, your care team.

Care that flexes between relapse and remission

MS is episodic, so a fixed care schedule fits it badly. During a relapse, care steps up — hands-on personal care, safe transfers, more help with the household. In remission, it steps back to a light touch that protects independence. The same registered nurse adjusts the plan both ways, and because MS often begins between 20 and 50, our care spans every age — not only seniors.

The services families combine most

Not sure which mix fits? That’s exactly what the free in-home visit is for — a nurse assesses, explains options including CDHCI funding, and builds the plan with you.

This page is general information about home-care support, not medical advice. Care plans are built with your family and, where you choose, alongside your physician, Assisted Living Alberta case manager, and therapy team.
