Do you treat ingrown toenails?

We manage mild cases conservatively through education, straight-across trimming, spacing/off-loading, and infection monitoring. Moderate–severe or recurrent ingrown nails, signs of infection, or significant pain are referred to podiatry for advanced procedures, such as partial avulsion or matrixectomy, as outlined by Alberta consumer guidance. One firm rule: with diabetes, poor circulation, or numbness in the feet, never treat an ingrown nail at home — book a clinical assessment. Infection, significant pain, or recurring ingrowth always escalates to podiatry.
