Care for All Ages (Children, Adults & Seniors)

About this service

We support families across the lifespan—from newborns and children with complex needs to adults managing chronic conditions and older adults who want to age in place. Alberta’s Home & Community Care system explicitly serves “clients of all ages,” with case management and clinical/home supports based on assessed need. For children, families may also access the provincial Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) program, while equipment for all ages (including pediatric items) may be eligible under Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) via authorizer assessment and approved vendors. We coordinate our private/CDHCI services around these public pathways so care is seamless at home

Who it's for

  • Children & youth with medical, developmental, or complex needs who receive pediatric home care/rehab and may have FSCD-funded supports; we work alongside AHS pediatric home care and community rehab teams.
  • Adults recovering after surgery or living with chronic illness who need personal care, nursing touchpoints, and help with daily living to remain at home.
  • Older adults seeking safe routines, fall prevention, and help with medications, meals, and mobility under home care models designed for all ages.

What´s included in the service?

Age-appropriate personal support

(ADLs, safe transfers, routines) delivered with developmental or condition-specific approaches (e.g., pediatric routines or dementia-capable strategies); home care in Alberta covers ADLs across the lifespan based on assessed need.

Care coordination

AHS Home & Community Care/pediatric home care, and where applicable FSCD (planning and respite for children with disabilities). We align our schedules and documentation to reduce duplication

Clinical touchpoints

via nursing (wounds, injections, med setup) and escalation back to your prescriber; pediatric teams commonly coordinate with the child’s specialty clinics and school supports.

Rehab reinforcement

(PT/OT/SLP plans) and home safety changes to reduce falls and support participation—paired with equipment navigation through AADL when eligible (adult & pediatric product lists/policies).

Equipment & supplies navigation

For all ages, including pediatric equipment benefits (e.g., seating, bathing/toileting, standing frames) under AADL Section K via an authorized assessor and approved vendors.

Frequently asked questions

How do public programs fit with your services for kids?

For children with disabilities, FSCD helps families plan, coordinate and access supports; AHS offers Children’s/Pediatric Home Care and Pediatric Community Rehabilitation. We coordinate with these teams and deliver complementary in-home services and respite.

Yes. Alberta Home & Community Care supports people of all ages; when CDHCI is authorized after assessment, we direct-bill Alberta Blue Cross for approved hours and families can add private top-ups. We also collaborate with AHS case managers for non-CDHCI clients

Eligible items are funded through AADL after assessment by an authorizer; for pediatric clients, see AADL Manual Section K and associated approved product lists (pediatric bathing/toileting/seating, recycled equipment like standing frames). Purchases must be through approved vendors.

FSCD may fund respite and in-home/in-community supports for eligible families; AHS Children’s Home Care also supports complex needs. We can coordinate schedules so family rest periods are predictable.

AHS case managers (for Home & Community Care/CDHCI) and FSCD caseworkers (for children with disabilities) determine eligibility and authorized supports. We provide private care around those decisions and help navigate next steps.
