Light Housekeeping & Laundry

About this service

Targeted, health-linked housekeeping to keep the home clean, safe, and functional—especially in kitchens, bathrooms, and high-traffic areas. Tasks focus on infection-prevention hygiene (wiping high-touch surfaces, managing laundry/linens) and fall-risk reduction (clearing walkways, tidying cords/rugs). In Alberta, portions of this work may be authorized as “essential homemaking linked to health/safety” within CDHCI after an AHS assessment, with approved hours billed directly to Alberta Blue Cross. Routine cleaning principles and “Routine Practices” from AHS guide how we clean during care.

Who it’s for

  • Clients who can live at home safely with periodic hygiene support (bathroom/kitchen sanitation, laundry/linens) and clutter control.
  • Families wanting fall-prevention housekeeping (clear paths, secure cords/rugs, improve lighting) integrated into regular visits.

What´s included in the service?

Bathroom refresh (health-linked)

Disinfect high-touch points (taps, counters, toilet handle/seat), wipe shower/tub surfaces used during personal care, restock towels and toiletries; follows AHS cleaning & disinfection principles.

Kitchen tidy & food-safe cleanup

Wash dishes, wipe counters/handles, spot-clean microwave/fridge shelves, check for expired foods after meal prep, and put garbage/recycling out.

Kitchen tidy & food-safe cleanup

Load/switch/fold/put-away; change bedding to support skin integrity and comfort; launder incontinence items promptly.

Clutter reduction & pathway clearing

Remove trip hazards, coil/tape cords along walls, and keep stairs and walkways free of items; suggest simple lighting fixes (e.g., nightlights).

Light dusting & floors (high-traffic)

Quick dust of reachable surfaces and light sweep/spot-mop where care occurs; heavier/seasonal tasks belong under Deep Cleaning

Post-care wipe-down (when care was provided)

Clean/disinfect surfaces/devices touched during ADLs (e.g., commodes, grab bars, shower chairs) per Routine Practices to reduce transmission.

We typically use client-provided cleaning products to avoid cross-contamination and fragrance sensitivities. If we supply materials, they’re itemized on the quote. (Equipment such as bath aids or commodes—if needed—may be obtained via AADL through an authorizer and approved vendors.)

Frequently asked questions

Is housekeeping covered by CDHCI?

Sometimes. CDHCI funds authorized service hours for tasks linked to health/safety (e.g., sanitation after personal care, incontinence laundry, keeping paths clear). An AHS case manager determines eligibility; approved hours are billed to Alberta Blue Cross. Broader housekeeping is typically private-pay.

Light housekeeping is hygiene and safety upkeep in areas used during care (bathroom/kitchen touchpoints, laundry, quick floors). Deep Cleaning is a separate, project-based service for larger jobs (appliance interiors, grout/baseboards, heavy build-up).

We follow AHS Routine Practices (hand hygiene, risk-based PPE) and its Cleaning & Disinfection guidance for community care—cleaning high-touch surfaces and non-critical equipment where care is provided.

We use Alberta home-safety checklists to keep floors and stairs clear, secure cords next to walls, and suggest simple lighting improvements (e.g., nightlights) to improve visibility.

By default we use the client’s supplies; if we bring materials, they’re listed on your quote. Clinical equipment and bath aids (if required) may be accessed via AADL through assessment by an authorizer and purchase from approved vendors.
